Maybe my current read, The Alchemist, is rubbing off too much, but I can’t help but notice the all of the small omens surrounding me these past few days. I’ve always found pleasure in the small things, things that most people wouldn’t think twice about. My favorite number on a plane ticket, a spot-on fortune cookie, a window display of notecards in the bottom of my new building, an unexpected apology for a long forgotten err, a song that steals the current thoughts right out of my head. If ever there were any doubts as to whether Chicago was the right decision at this time in my life, all signs and omens are now pointing towards hell yes it is. They might be small and insignificant events in the big picture, but when looking for support and direction while embracing a new adventure it’s the little things that keep me charging ahead.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk
I am so absurdly proud of being a Jayhawk that it’s a little gross. I wouldn’t say that I alone help to give Jayhawk fans a bad name (I know some of my friends affiliated with less-sweet universities would beg to differ), but when your team and school is as badass as Kansas, it’s very hard to be modest. However, I will say that after this past basketball season, I will never EVER talk even 1/10th the amount of shit during a season as I did last year. Boy did that bite me in the ass. But, one of my favorite things in life is to run into a random Jayhawk while out and about. Here’s a little story about that:
My favorite crazy Romanian and I are driving down a busy street in Denver behind a brand new silver Range Rover Sport. There in the bottom right hand corner, about the size of a quarter, is a baby Jayhawk. Being the obnox KU fan I am, I demand that my Romanian pull along side him immediately. To my extreme pleasure, he’s very fit, very black, and very good looking. A bit taken aback, I almost forget my mission until I start yelling “ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK GO KU!!” into his window and ear drum.
He looks at us for a moment like we’re crazy, then can’t help but hide his huge smile. “YOU KNOW IT GURRRRRRRRRRRRRL!” and with a snap of his fingers the pretty gay boy in his pretty car with a pretty sticker took off. As the Romanian and I tried to compose ourselves while fighting the giggle fits we notice that our Black Stallion has returned and is furiously shaking something out of the window trying to get me to take it. I crawl halfway out of the window to make the perfect handoff.
Alas, no phone number but something even better: a sheet of little quarter sized Jayhawk stickers.
Rock Chalk Jayhawk, keep spreadin’ the love.
Anthem Branding Happy Hour
If I haven’t already told you about this, then we probably haven’t caught up recently. This is my little networking side project I’ve been working on for a while at work and it’s almost here! 2140 is the Boulder Chamber’s Young Professionals Networking group; they do a great job at putting on Happy Hours, Luncheons, and Philanthropic events in the community to get people between the ages of 21 & 40 together to socialize. It’s not a pretentious group of card shovers, just people like you and me that like to meet & greet with a drink and chat it up.
On Wednesday Sept 22 from 5:30-7:3opm Anthem Branding is partnering with 2140 to host the September Happy Hour. With the recent wildfires in our neck of the woods, the non-profit we’ve decided to benefit could not be a better choice. EFAA (Emergency Family Assistance Association) has helped thousands of families in need, providing food, shelter, rent assistance, furniture and more. They are currently playing a critical role in supporting the families that have been devastated by the recent Fourmile Wildfire and the ongoing Larimer County Wildfire.
Upslope Brewing Co has generously donated their delicious beer for the occasion, Comida, the mobile Mexican feast will be rolling up in the parking lot to dish out some tacos, and wine will be flowing. We’re suggesting a $15 donation to EFAA if you come…there are a lot of families that have lost everything and need a little boost. We’ll get the party tab, you just show up, support a great cause, and have a good time.
2 more reasons you should come: Anthem is known for rad swag and if you get there early you just might get some fly gear of your own. And I’m moving 3 days later, so come say good bye please (:
Rado to the Chi
I’m 2 weeks out from moving across the country, leaving one home for another. I never saw it coming this soon, but when does life ever play fair? My emotions over the whole situation have been out of control, and for that my friends I apologize. We all know I can be a hot mess at times, but I truly appreciate you all for appeasing my extreme hot mess-ness as of late.
A summary timeline of my thought process over the last month and half:
Gut reaction? Hell yes. 1 week in: Hmm. Series of unfortunate events: This is going to be way harder than I thought. Unexpected response: Ok! I got this. Another series of unfortunate events: Aaaand it’s time for me to go.
Today while on a blog blitz multitasking the packing of my relocube: Let’s do this.
I can’t say I haven’t been extremely butthurt about leaving Rado the past few weeks. You would be too if you had to leave an amazing bubble of sun and snow, where people run around playing all day. I’ve got a sweet gig at a killer company, amazing circle of friends who have nearly become my family and the biggest adult playground I’ve ever come across in my exploring. A lot of people would say, “Nah, I’m good right here.”
On the flipside, I’ve always told myself I’d go home if the right opportunity presented itself. A dream job working for my mentor to launch my career, the official Chi-town crew and actual family, all in one of the (in my humble opinion) sickest cities the US has to offer? Pretty much the opportunity of a lifetime right I’d say. I’d be violating my own personal morals if I didn’t go. Not to mention the line-up of events this year in Chicago are epic, in which case my presence was required anyway.
Time to grow up and go get my dreams. As scary as that is, I’m ready and waiting to go rock it.
I’ll be back Rado, I’m not done with you yet. But in the meantime, I will be enjoying my new view.
